It is advised that anyone with a previous allergic reaction to dermal fillers should avoid this treatment. Dermal fillers should also not be used in areas that have recently suffered from inflammation, trauma other skin related problems. Pregnancy and breast feeding is a total contra indication for all cosmetic treatments.

What should I consider prior to treatment?

We advise you to avoid blood thinners (alcohol, aspirin, Vitamin E) for 2 days prior to your treatment as thin blood increases the risk of bruising at the injection site. Taking Arnica tablets before treatment will also reduce the risk of bruising.

Will dermal filler injections hurt?

Dermal fillers can be slightly uncomfortable, depending on the depth of the injection required. However, the majority of dermal fillers contain a local anaesthetic which minimises discomfort. We can also use numbing creams.

When will I see results?

You will see the results immediately with further improvement in the vitality of the skin developing over 1-4 weeks.

What are the side effects?

There may occasionally be slight swelling, redness, bruising or bleeding at the injection site, however the use of a cannula can greatly reduce the chance of bruising. Any side effects are usually temporary and disappear within a few days. Due to the sensitivity of the lips however, recovery time is usually 24-48 hours with swelling, bruising and tenderness lasting up to a week.

What after care do you recommend?

The vast majority of clients will not experience any symptoms following treatment. However, in the instances of bruising, swelling or redness we recommend the application of a cold compress.

Arnica cream can also reduce bruising. Generally we recommend that you let the area settle immediately after the procedure and avoid touching it. Additionally we advise that you don’t have facial treatments for the next 24-48 hours and avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, heat or excessive exposure during the following 6-10 hours directly after treatment.

How long do dermal fillers last?

One of the advantages of dermal filler is that although the effects are long lasting, they are not permanent. The effects generally last between 6-12 months, but are dependent on a range of factors such as the area treated, the skin type and condition and also the metabolism of the client.

Can dermal fillers be removed?

Hyaluronic acid fillers such as Restylane and Juvéderm may be rapidly dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase. However it is rare for a client to request this following treatment by a reputable practitioner.
